The free app for organising your group meet-ups

Drinks, padel, football or a family outing: no more WhatsApp group where it takes 40 messages to find out who's coming.

Keep WhatsApp for chatting: Popway takes care of the meet-ups.

  • You see who's coming without reading 40 messages.
  • The app chases up those who haven't answered, and sends a reminder the day before.
  • You tick off who has paid their share of the costs.
  • Your guests reply from the link you send them, without installing the app.
  • No swapping numbers: others don't see yours.
  • It's free, for you and for the whole group.

Popway is being tested with its first groups and will soon open to everyone. Leave your email: we'll let you know when it opens.

From the overflowing chat to the meet-up card.

  1. Before

214 messages to find out who's coming on Wednesday. The "+1"s pile up, the free spot gets lost, and nobody knows who paid for the court.

  2. With Popway

Everything that matters leaves the chat: the date, who's coming, what's missing. The group can keep chatting.

  3. The free spot

Tom can't make it: he frees his spot in one tap. If there's a waiting list, the next person gets it and is notified; if not, "1 person missing — let people know" prepares the message to share.

  4. Full

Inès replies "I'm in": the spot is hers. Everyone sees their share of the court, and you tick off who has paid.

Four ways to use it

Your crew, your way.

Four examples below. The same idea works for golf, a hike, a choir or a book club.

Padel

Wednesday padel

Without PopwayTuesday, 10.40 pm: "Tom can't make it. Anyone?" You message everyone, count the replies, then work out the court share again.

With PopwayTom frees his spot in one tap. The next person on the waiting list gets it and is notified; if there's nobody, a button prepares the "1 person missing" message. Everyone sees their share, and you tick off who has paid.

  • Limited spots and a waiting list that runs itself
  • The meet-up comes back every week, opened in advance
  • Tracking who has paid
Football

Thursday football

Without PopwayWednesday evening: “How many of us tomorrow?” Eight answers, two “maybe”s, and you spend the evening hunting for the last two so there are ten of you.

With PopwayYou open ten spots. Everyone answers “I'm in” in one tap; the next ones go on the waiting list, and if someone drops out, their spot goes to the next person, who is notified. Those who haven't answered are chased up, and a reminder goes out the day before.

  • Ten spots, and a waiting list for the next ones
  • The meet-up comes back every Thursday, opened in advance
  • Chasers and a reminder the day before

The barbecue at Mateo's

Without PopwayThree bottles of rosé, nobody thought of charcoal, two half-empty cars, and the next day you settle up on a corner of the tablecloth.

With PopwayA "Who brings what" list where everyone takes a line, car-sharing where everyone adds their car and seats, and the day before, a reminder of what everyone is bringing.

  • Who brings what, with quantities
  • Car-sharing: "I have a car" and its free seats
  • Reminder the day before
Invitation only

The party by invitation

Without PopwayA guest list in a spreadsheet, replies by email, by message and in person, and on the night, a sheet of paper to tick names at the door.

With PopwayEach guest gets a personal invitation and replies from the link, without installing the app. Your form (menus, options, questions), your approval of each sign-up, and on the day you check people in from the app.

  • Personal invitation, reply without an account
  • A sign-up form made to measure
  • Check-in on the day
Coming soon: online card payment. Meanwhile, you tick off who has paid.

Why not just WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is perfect for chatting. For organising, here are six situations every group organiser knows.

Your groups

All your groups, one account.

Drinks with the neighbours, Thursday football, Zoé's birthday: every group has its own page, with its members and its meet-ups, whatever the activity. With one account, you follow all your groups, and one calendar brings all your meet-ups together. Your members can simply reply from a link, without an account.

  • Every activity: football, hiking, choir, parties, birthdays…

Also included

  • Meet-ups that come back every week
  • Bringing guests
  • Private reminders to non-repliers
  • Reminder the day before
  • One calendar for all your groups
  • Organiser area on your computer
  • Guest list export
  • Ten languages

WhatsApp for chatting, Popway for organising

We like WhatsApp for what it does well. Here is what it doesn't do, and what two other kinds of tools do. A dash “—” means: not checked.

WhatsApp is still the best place to chat. Popway handles everything after "I'm in".

We'll let you know at launch

Popway is being tested with its first groups. Tell us how you organise today: we'll write to you personally when it opens.

Today you organise with:

Data controller: iClics SRL. To access or erase your data, write to contact@popway.app.

Thank you, noted. We'll write to you personally to get started with your group.

Did you get an invitation?

Open the link it contains: it takes you straight to the event, and you can reply without installing the app. Can't find it? Ask the person organising.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Popway is free, for you as the organiser and for your members, with no subscription. Only if you one day collect payments by card in the app is a small commission taken from each payment you receive (details just below); everything else is free.

How is Popway funded?

Popway is free and ad-free in your groups, and we never sell your data. It is funded by partner offers and, later, by options for organisers and clubs.

Can I collect payments?

Not yet: online card payment is coming soon. If you choose to use it, 3% + €0.25 will be taken from each payment you receive, card fees included; your members pay only the price you set. Meanwhile, Popway shows you who has paid and who still needs a reminder.

Do I have to leave WhatsApp?

No. Keep your group for chatting, and paste the link to your meet-ups there: Popway keeps track of who's coming. Each Popway community also has its own chat, but you don't have to use it: it's only there if you'd one day rather have everything in one place.

Will others see my phone number?

No. Unlike a WhatsApp group, other members don't see your number: Popway doesn't ask for it to sign up or to reply. An event organiser may, however, ask for your mobile number in their registration form: you see this before you register, and only the organiser receives it.

Do my members have to install the app?

No. They reply from a link, with no account or app: a personal invitation received by email, or a public link you paste into your WhatsApp group (an option to turn on in your community settings). An email address is enough, and that's where they then get their reminders; those who have the app get them in the app.

Football, drinks, birthdays: all in the same app?

Yes. Every group has its own page, whatever the activity, and all your groups are in one place. One Popway account is enough, and one calendar brings all your meet-ups together.

In which languages?

The app and the organiser area on your computer both work in ten languages, including English, French and Dutch.

A link to share, and everyone's there.

WhatsApp is made for chatting. Popway is made for getting together.
